Art Gallery Project - Road Sketch View
The Art Gallery project in the Second Year was based in Bath near to Kingsmead Square. The project had to keep access for both deliveries to the rear of the buildings to the South of Kingsmead Square (off Trinity Street) and the access to the car park.
My proposal was to make Trinity Street pedestrian only and build the Gallery in the triangle of land bounded by Trinity Street, the angled buildings opposite and James Street W.
Each Gallery was assigned an artist and mine was Antony Gormley, so hence the design of the building was focused on the viewing scuplture.
The Gallery was designed so that installations could fill a room yet people could still see it using the external corridors around the galleries. Also the implementation of "viewing points" in these corridors would allow the curator to frame views of an artwork, possibly from an unusual angle, that artwork is not normally seen from.
This sketch shows the view from James Street W looking towards the Gallery.
